Features
Live Gallery is currently in free public beta. This is pre-release software built for testing and feedback. The beta is limited to 5,000 images and may contain bugs or unfinished areas.
We've had a huge amount of positive interest from people wanting early access, but we understand many will prefer to wait for the final release. Both are completely valid. If you do download the beta, your feedback directly shapes what gets built next.
Built for people with real photo libraries.
Live Gallery is a local, offline photo manager for Windows 11. No cloud, no account, no subscription to get started.
Here's what's inside the beta:
Offline, always
Everything runs on your machine. Live Gallery makes no external connections during normal use. Your photos are never uploaded, never scanned by a server, and never leave your device. Face recognition, search, and organisation all happen locally.

Fast browsing at scale
Point Live Gallery at any folder on any drive and it catalogs your photos instantly. The beta supports up to 5,000 images. The final release will scale significantly beyond that, with paid tiers supporting libraries of 200,000 images and beyond.

Face recognition
Live Gallery detects and groups faces locally, no internet required. Tag people once and find every photo they appear in across your entire library in seconds. This is the feature Picasa users have missed most since 2016, and it runs entirely on your own hardware.

Windows Live Photo Gallery tags and names
If you used Windows Live Photo Gallery before Microsoft retired it, your existing tags and people's names are still stored inside your photo files. Live Gallery reads them and brings them back automatically on first launch. No manual re-tagging required.

Instant filtering
Filter by date, tag, person, or folder. Results appear immediately. No waiting, no loading screens, no lag on large libraries.

Format support
Live Gallery supports a wide range of common image formats including JPEG, PNG, RAW, HEIC, WebP, BMP, TIFF, and more. We've focused on covering the formats most people actually have in their libraries rather than claiming to support everything. Full format documentation is available on the download page.

Dark mode and light mode
Live Gallery is built natively for Windows 11 and supports both dark and light modes. It uses the Mica material design system, which creates a live visual connection to your desktop wallpaper when the app is in focus.
